2016

Hey Chiang Mai, Your Flowery Festival Has Arrived!

(February 3rd, 2016)

Okay folks, the 40th Annual Chiang Mai Flower Festival is once again upon us. This is a mixed blessing for the locals as traffic in and around the old city center becomes nearly impossible to navigate. That said, for this festival, it’s totally worth it. If you’re one of the lucky ones to be in Chiang Mai this coming weekend, I think you find it to be a special event filled with lots of chiang mai float womanbeautifully colored flowers and arrangements along with an amazing variety of plant life and crafts from local artisans. I hope you brought your walking shoes because as I already mentioned, traffic will be nasty.

One last thing, don’t forget to head on over to Royal Flora Park, it’s a little outside of town but usually, this time of year, has an amazing display and variety of all kinds of plant life from around the world as well as beautiful displays and arrangements of local flowers. Have a great time!

Friday, February 5th

9am to 12-midnight
Chiang Mai will be consumed all day long in numerous places along the fair grounds where there will be exhibitions and contests for flower arrangements. Information on where and what time these contests will take place were not available. Also on display will be a variety of decorative plants along with mini gardens plus a large assortment of local arts and crafts. At Nong Buak Haad Public Park and Tha Phae Gate cultural displays of Thai music and dance will also be on display throughout the day.

5pm
40th Annual Chiang Mai Flower Festival Opening Ceremony (Nong Buak Haad Public Park)

7pm to 11pm
Beauty contests for Miss Flower & Miss International Flower Blooming will take place at Nong Buak Haad Public Park. It’s also usually common to see a beauty contest at Tha Phae Gate, but I’ve not heard about one taking place there this year, but you never know. It’s the way it goes as released schedules many times don’t reflect a complete list of events and activities.

Saturday, February 6th

9am to 12-midnight
Same as above: Exhibitions and contests for flower arrangements.
On display will be a variety of decorative plants along with mini gardens plus a large assortment of local arts and crafts.
At Nong Buak Haad Public Park and Tha Phae Gate cultural displays of Thai music and dance will also be on display throughout the day.

8am
Begins the Chiang Mai Flower Festival Parade (parade route). Over 20 ornately decorated flower festival floats begin rolling from the Nawarat bridge. They’ll head straight to Tha Phae gate on Tha Phae Rd. From my experience the parade peaks at Tha Phae Gate and then loosely continues to its final destination at Nong Buak Haad Public Park. Don’t expect the parade to start on time but who know, maybe this year it will so be on time and find a nice place to sit along Tha Phae Rd and enjoy!

7pm
Awards Presentation for the participants of the Chiang Mai Flower Festival Parade at Tha Phae Gate.

6pm to 8pm
Chiang Mai’s celebrates its 720th year with performances of Thai Lanna dancing on stage at Three Kings Monument.
