Chinese New Year Chiang Mai

When: January 28th thru 30th
Where: Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Pattaya, Phuket
Observance: Nationwide

Chinese New Year is the Year of the Rooster

This year for Chinese New Year, I’ll be returning to Chiang Mai Chinatown. Its a small but fun festival, with lots of bright colors, traditional Chinese Music and dancing, good to great street food and fun fireworks finale. It’s right next to the Ping River located between the Nakhon Phing and Nawarat Bridges in the heart of the

Nawarat Market. Great location for a stroll by the river and taking in all your surrounding.

Chinese New Year Chiang Mai ChinatownChinese New Year for 2017 will fall on Saturday, January 28th and will last till January 30th. Celebrated for 3 days in Chiang Mai, this is a nighttime festival and its biggest night will be on the night of the full moon, which is January 29th. I’ll have to confirm this as I seem to remember the second night as being the biggest. In China the New Year festival lasts up to 15 days which is the length of one Lunar cycle and is celebrated nationwide. In Thailand celebrations for the Chinese New Year can be found in most of the major cities and just about anywhere you find large numbers of Chinese descended Thai people. In Thailand, it’s not recognized as a national holiday but is observed for three days nationwide, just no days off. So sad! 🙂
